What is the best way to clean the blade of my DLC-coated Para2? I tried windex, but it seemed to discolor or lighten the coating a bit. Is the discoloration permanent? What is a better way to clean the blade?

None of the mentioned cleaning methods leave a residue. They simply strip the oil off the matte surface-leaving it lighter colored.
Oiling restores the dark color.

Well you've obviously never lived in San Antonio. The extremely hard water most definitely leaves a residue on pots, pans, and knife blades alike.

I'm with Bill on this one. I think there is an oil, wax or other light surface finishing overcoat left on some brand new DLC-coated blades that gets stripped away by solvents (Windex, alcohol, etc). I noticed the same effect after wiping down my DLC-coated ZT-350's blade with some isopropyl alcohol (which leaves no residue at all). The black blade went somewhat 'flat dark grey' in appearance after doing that, but darkened up again near the edge after I'd stropped the edge with some wax/stearin-based 'stick' compound. I'm sure the 'wax' in the compound had something to do with it, such as with a faded paint job on a car that darkens up after a new coat of wax is applied. From what I read in other forums about DLC, it's 'true' color is generally a dark flat grey anyway. So, the really dark black & shiny finish seen on brand new knives is probably getting a little cosmetic help with some kind of overcoating that will likely fade in time, anyway.

No worries about the DLC itself coming off, aside from doing some heavy grinding on it.
