DLC coating for a user?

I like the look of the DLC coating, but is it durable enough for a user? ( I was thinking of a PM 2 S30V). How easily does it scratch?

I have the black blade camo version and it seems very durable. I cut roofing tiles with it and got some scratches but not like I have seen on other black blades. Some black blades looks like the paint is flaking off. This seems really durable to me. More than I thought it would be.

its very hard if true dlc. very hard to scratch unless cutting something harder than it.

sometimes it looks like ya scratched it but its just residue of what ya cut and rubs off with some effort.

It's really good. I have a H-1 Ladybug on my keyring with black DLC. Had it for a few years and it's my first choice for a lot of cutting plus it gets dropped and the keys rub on the blade and the DLC is worn off the edges of the spine but it's just worn there the black and the etching still looks good.

I would rate that knife as abused because of how it's knocked around for unrelated tasks and it still looks good.

aka Cold Steel until just recently.

DLC is very hard and tough... it's used on engine valve stems among other things, such as artificial joints.

I was scared to try it because I use all my knives, at least until the next one comes.

Now I HAVE to try it!
Thanks for the replies.

That isn't DLC. DLC is only on Golden made Spydies and is superior to the coating on the Japanese Spydies.

OP, DLC coatings are actually harder than the steel and thus more resistant to wear than the steel itself.

No problem brother! They are both harder than steel but from what I have read most folks find the DLC to be more durable. I have that same Ladyhawk and love it! :)
No it's good to know for sure! Then I'm not saying the wrong thing.

TiN is pretty good stuff .

Part 2 then. What is slipperier for cutting a TiN coating or a DLC coating?

I was not aware dlc was just for for golden models that's interesting. I believe the new gen5 glocks have a dlc slide too

I've been using this one since I got it, to cut various items at work. Nothing through the DLC yet.

Thanks! Spyderco's M4 is probably my favorite steel from them.

Yeah, the only thing that's really kicked my DLC Jade Manix 2 out of my pocket recently is this 52100 DLC Manix 2. I'm a firm believer in Spydercos DLC.

In my experience with Spyderco's dlc (which is alot), the only thing to actually go through it is when it comes in contact with other metals. Other then that, it gains marks/'smudges' that will come off by cleaning/rubbing them out.

Here's a pic i dug up from an old sales thread of mine. All the marks aren't permanent except the tiny one left of the bug and the scratch at the grind just left of the 'SPYDERCO Cts-xhp'. The bug mark was it scratched against some aluminium i believe. And the grind one was from running against sharpening rods on a sharpmaker (med and fine).

As others have said, it is very durable. I’ve had a digi pm2 with the dlc blade that I use a decent amount for the past several years and it still looks new. It was my edc today. Love this knife.
