DLC coating maintenance on M4 (or other non-stainless)

So I have the BHQ Military in M4 and I forced a patina on the entire blade except what was covered by the scales (as I heard that may cause problems with detent). I thought I was doing a fair job of maintaining everything with oil, however I noticed some brown coming out with the oil one day. So I took it apart to clean the minor rusting within the pivot area. No big deal.

The Patina part hasn't developed any rust though. Is it true that the patina protects against rust better than a blade that hasn't been?

So now with my BHQ DLC para m4 I have oiled the pivot area, but I don't know if I should regularly oil the rest of the blade as well?

What is your experience with maintaining a non-stainless DLC coated blade?

Thanks!

Both the patina on a non stainless steel blade and the DLC coating act to hold more oil on the blade in order to protect from corrosion. So if you have a patina or DLC coated but neglect to oil the blade, you can still get rust.
