DLC damage

I'm impressed with how hard it is to damage Spydercos DLC.
I have a black/DLC Para 2 myself that I've used quite a lot over the past few years and though you can see its used there isn't a decent scratch anywhere on the DLC.
A fitter at work has a Manix XL DLC as a work knife, he treats his tools with respect, still the XL does get used for things like scraping gaskets off flanges and other mechanical type work. The DLC on his XL has no significant scratches or marks so far.

Couple of years ago I convinced a mate he needed a Para 2 in his life and sourced him a Digicam/DLC.
He also got a Sharpmaker and he uses that, but every so often he gives me the Para 2 for a re-profile on the WE. And to put a point back on it, which is, um, pointless, as it will be gone within 5 minutes of him using it.
He's a farmer and has used this Para 2 daily since he got it, often in a harsh manner, and I just wanted to give an example of the kind of punishment Spydercos DLC can take.

When I see a bit more damage and ask him 'how did you do that?' I hear things like pushing the blade and pivot area into the ground, to cut off gorse roots below ground level, or scraping the blade repeatedly along old barbed wire to cut off a vast tangled growth of Kikuyu, or digging out clumps of mud from the tractor implements, or as a screw driver or to pry out fence staples, or stripping insulation off heavy electric fence wire, or punching holes in corrugated iron, not to mention cutting anything and everything he needs to cut.
He's never used it in a way that is likely to break it, but as a knife/utility tool he uses it with gay abandon to do whatever needs doing out on the farm.

He wasn't clear about how the arc spot got there, muttering something about working on an electrical problem.

It's also opened a rather large number of beer bottles.

He's so impressed with this folder he recently got me to source him a black/satin Para 2, for his going out knife. This one won't see the harsh use he says.

Anyway, I recently sharpened it for him and just thought I would share a few pics.
Anyone else got examples of what it takes to damage DLC coating?

Pretty impressive durability when you consider the scope of work your farmer friend uses it for... I would love to see a pic of the edge before you sharpened it... :)

I once scratched the DLC on a PM2 by accidental contact with a sharpening stone, but that's not unexpected.

I carry a dlc delica and yes it is very durable finish. I wish I could get dlc finish on my ar15. Finish comes off the rails very easily.
