DLC on a damascus steel knive

i have recently purchased that knife: http://bladegallery.com/knives/knife.asp?knifeid=4393&pics=small&alt=one , after a couple of uses it started to develop patina; however i would like to keep it nice and shiny, just like on the picture. A buddy of mine has suggested putting DLC on, which he can do free of charge for me since he is a partner in a company that does DLC and some other coatings.

Any pros and cons for the idea of DLC?

DLC will almost certainly obscure the damascus pattern. I would just use some 000 or 0000 steel wool and buff the blade down occasionally in order to restore the contrast of the layers.

another question, if i were to get a light patina on the blade with of the of the methods described on the forum, would that light patina become darker over time? because what happened is i've usedthe knive to cut some onions and stuff and it went dark in spots. i wouldn't mind light patina, but i got some dark blue spots now

the initial staining can be somewhat blotchy, keep the blade lightly oiled and rub it down occasionally with the steel wool and it should maintain the damascus pattern without any further effort.
