I started a poll like this over on Spyderco's forums. I thought I'd do the same here.

Considering the same knife would you prefer DLC coating on the blade or would you prefer a Satin/plain finish?

I know whether or not the blade steel is stainless probably makes a difference to a lot of people but what do you like in general?

Satin. The only DLC I am really in love with right now is the stonewash DLC Hinderer is doing on some of his knives. Any other knife period is Satin though, especially my Spydercos.

I voted satin, but given a choice I'd take the stonewashed black. I have an older ZT 0801 with it & really like it. I'd post a pic, but this the Spyderco sub forum after all.

I can t believe this will be close. Dlc blades are a niche, though somewhat expanded for me by Cold Steel. Much prefer uncoated blades. I don t have many tactical uses for my knives (thank goodness).

Voting running about the same over the years.

Less than 20% favor DLC over satin.
I do not care for DLC.

FK

I like the looks of DLC but the cutting and ability to wipe clean characteristics of a Satin blade. So it's a toss-up......

I’ve never met a coated blade I couldn’t manage to mess the coating up on.

When I first started, all my blades were black. I was in the military then and it seemed to fit.

At that time I didn’t even mind the worn look the blade will inevitably get.

I’ve been out for a while now and I just prefer satin.

I even took a green scotch pad to a coated Benchmade and really like the results.

I love the way that DLC bladed knives "look" new but not how they look after they are used. Feel the same way about serrations, like the way they look but never use them either.

Those knives that I actually use only have satin or polished plain edged blades.

Satin. I do like a coating on a carbon based fixed blade for corrosion protection. I don't own a carbon folder ... yet.
