Just a quick question. I'm thinking about picking up the carbon fiber/M390 version of this knife. The scales look flatter than the regular Griptilian. Is this correct? How does this affect how it feels "in hand"?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, they’re more of a slab than the regular handles, so they don’t fill the hand as well. Still, it’s one of my favorites.

It is flat scales. I wish they offered a a regular production griptilian with flat scales. I have the DLT exclusive and the limited edition titanium wood inlay mini griptilian which is also flat scales. I personally like the feel in hand of the flat scales compared to the regular production offerings.

So to be clear, the handle thickness feels thinner right?

They are thinner, yes. But the CF slabs are pretty thick, so they aren’t much thinner. The chamfer at the edges of the scale still make for great ergos. I really like it. Easily my favorite Grip variation so far.

The DLT Griptilian is a solid knife and feels great in the hand, but man those CF scales are slippery. Had to let mine go because of that unfortunately. Could barely get the thing out of my pocket..

That is a concern, although a Rat D2 seems OK with carbon fiber scales...

In my experience, the matte finish on the carbon fiber isn't slippery at all, and the three grooves milled on each side also add some tactility. It's not as grippy as the polymer handled grips, but I wouldn't call it slippery by any means.

I really like the knife overall. The flat CF scales feel smaller in the pocket, but still plenty of grip.
The only thing I dont like are the brass standoffs, I think they look like :poop:.

One can nit-pic any knife but I had one of these in may hand for maybe 30 minutes before diving back in to buy (3) more as gifts for mining engineers that have helped my career tremendously. I might add that for a short time I had a standard 551 in grey and found it gravely disappointing. With CF slabs and M390 this iteration is a fine cutter that fills the hand nicely, the way it ought to be. On the CF what halden.doerge said for sure. This one will disappoint very few.

After reading all the other threads regarding Benchmade, and the fact that both my wife and myself are NRA certified instructors, I placed my order with Knifeworks for the new Ritter RSK.

its to bad that so many people are now against Benchmade but none the less the dlt grip is a really nice piece and imo better than the ritter but your mileage may vary.

Last fall the Internet flew off the handle and decided that you were a Bad Person with No Principles if you wanted to buy the new Hogue Ritter. Now the Internet has decided the same about Benchmade knives. Strange times.

I have the DLT Grip and it's a great knife. Sure would be nice to have also have a 556 (mini) version.

nassauM40i -- Those were some righteous gifts!

I am also a NRA member and have no issues with Benchmade. I just purchased this DLT exclusive Griptilian and eagerly await its arrival. I've always wanted a Griptilian but was never a fan of the plastic feeling handle. Looks like this version will suite me well.
