dmt coarse??

Oh, yes, it will do it as I've done it several times. Thats the level I normally stop at when sharpening my knives. DM

With diamond hones using less pressure while sharpening makes them work better. Using a light touch with the last few passes also helps eliminate the burr and make a sharper cutting edge. The Coarse DMT can produce a edge that is well beyond even most factory sharpness and will easily pass most sharpness tests.

If you're looking at dmt diamond bench stones and you want a more complete do it all stone dmt also sells a coarse/fine double sided stone. The coarse is nice for more serious reprofiling, but a bit finer edge is usually preferable.

I got a question along the lines of DMT coarse stones. I have 220 grit waterstone and even though I havent used it that much(7-10 knives, but I had to do some pretty intense edge reprofiling) I can tell its wearing out quite fast.

So some time in the near future im thinking about picking up a DMT low grit stone. I would it use for my edge reprofiling and use my other water stones for sharpening. I was just wondering which grit I should look at. 120? 220? 325? Or does it really matter?

Thanks.

I've used extra course and course on old axe heads and it did an amazing job. It worked better than a mill file.
