Dmt Cs2?

I just bought a DMT CS2 ceramic "steel" today. Overall I like but I'm a bit concerned re the grit of it. The info I found online says it's a 7 micron / 2200 grit rod. On paper is should be finer than the ceramic I got from EdgePro Inc, but it doesn't "feel" as fine when I run knives over it.

Now, the info enclosed in it says the outer layer will come off pretty quickly in normal use- what will that mean to me? I never use actual steel steels, no matter how fine. I bought the DMT because I wanted a rod as fine as the EP but a bit longer for larger knives. Plus, the DMT is aluminum with a coating, much more durable, or so one would think. I got it for my roll to take to work, where a fully-ceramic rod might come to a bad end.

I GOT A COUPLE FOR THE EDGE PRO. Try as I might, I cant get the edge back on the CS Master Hunter. I have sharpened it for years but for some reason it just won't take a edge. The clamps on the Gatco and Lansky won't work as the top edge of the knife is to wide. The Sharpmaker does not seem to have the right angle. At least its a short blade.:)

I just had a bad experience trying to order the Ultra-Fine stones for my Sharpmaker. I ordered them from Bestknives, the place I got my SM. Well, I only got a single stone, although the site clearly said "stones" plural. So I immediately hit their website to email them when I noticed they changed the SM accessories page. They increased the price and now list it as a single stone only!:jerkit: So not only was I mislead into paying a premium price for what amounts to 1/2 a pair of shoes, they upped the price and no longer sell the other shoe! Needless to say I'm unimpresses with Bestknives.com so far. I did email them, however- we'll see what they have to say.

BTW, have you used the DMT ceramic "steel"? I think once the outer layer wears off it should be pretty smooth, or at least I hope. One things for sure; I won't be returning it. I had to "modify" it a bit with a saw. It had an X or cross shaped guard that made it too thick to fit comfortably in my knife roll, so I sawed the guards off of the sides. Now it has a guard like a knife or sword. They probably wouldn't accept a return on that.:D

All I got from SM was the crooked Ceramic stones which work well. I finally did get a good edge on the Master hunter. I was just looking at Bestknives site at the diamond stones. Maybe I better read it again. I might try the KME sharpener.

afaik, all triangular ceramic SM stones are sold individually, only the diamonds come in a pair

I guess my problem is that they don't mention this; they list "stones" using the plural form of the noun. And between the time I purchased mine and the time I got them, they saw fit to not only clarify how many stones you get but they also raised the price! So far, no response to my email, either.

I can't say as I'm impressed by the company so far. Their price on the SM was a couple bucks better than most but their shipping is higher.

It's not the fact that they're sold singly that chaps my ass; it's that they don't tell you that fact ahead of time. Maybe I'm just a Sharpmaker nOOb, but since one stone is no more useful than one glove or one sock, the reasonable expectation should be that they're sold by the pair. The SM works well for touch ups with just the stock stones- had I known the price was each I wouldn't have bothered. Now I'm out the original $$$, plus they raised the price, making completing the pair even less attractive.

But I digress: the point of this thread was to gain info on the CM2. I'm still curious if anyone has used on long enough to tell if it's really as fine a grit as they claim.

yeah it does feel ROUGH, not as fine as my Kyocera.

I guess DMT is for working knives. not super sharp but will get the job done.
