DMT D8 Extra Extra Fine scratches

Howdy,

I bought a DMT D8C and D8EF 8"x3" diamond stones to freehand sharpen with. I have been using Norton Oil stones and Arkansas soft and hard stones up to this point.

I really like the course stone. It works great.

The extra fine is OK. It doesn't feel uniform like the course. It's almost like there are high spots in it. It does work pretty good though.

I then got an Extra Extra Fine. It started developing very noticeable scratches almost immediately. The D8C and the D8EF don't have any scratches. I use water on the surface when sharpening and clean the stone after use. I use very light pressure when sharpening to let the diamonds do the work.

Are scratches normal with the EEF stone?

I have a fine diamond and it scratches . After reading about diamonds here I understood the scratches you just have to live with . DM

Diamonds have a break-in period, the EEF will get much better but you must give it time.
