DMT dia-sharp system question regarding clamp?

I have one of these with some ex coarse stones and the clamp is absolute junk. Would a lansky clamp work with using the stone holder of the diasharp so I can use dmt stones? I Sharpened a pm2 at the 5 setting on the clamp and its as sharp as I have ever gotten it but on one side of the blade near the tip it is not even with the other side. Also regarding angles, 30 deg inclusive is 15 deg on each side, correct? So the 5 setting on the clamp of the DMT is probably anybody's guess?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, 30° is inclusive which is 15° each side.

Markings on any clamp system are almost meaningless as to the actual angle. The size and profile of the blade, where/how the clamp is attached, and stone thickness all affect the actual sharpening angle.

On both my Lansky and DMT systems, I use a Sharpie to blacken the edge and then select the clamp's hole/notch that allows the stone to best match the blade's existing angle.

If using such an edge-matching technique, then mixing stones and clamps is possible. But it further renders the clamp markings useless.

BTW, in the interest of full disclosure, I prefer the DMT clamp to the Lansky. ;)

Thanks, any tips on using the DMT clamp?

Don't over-tighten it - I broke mine right away.

DMT sent me a replacement out though.

I quit using the aligner and just went back to hand sharpening with my Dia-fold.

best

Not a fan of the DMT, had the aligner for a short time and didn't like it at all. Wound up keeping the hones, junked everything else and replaced it with the KME system. Love the KME.

Hi,
What was it that you didn't like? Why do you love the other one?
