Hello, yesterday i was on sharpeningsupplies.com (check out this great site) and i saw an exclusive special to that site for two DMT Duo-Sharps (with both abrasive sides), one extra coarse/coarse and one fine/extra fine. It was 80 bucks and came in a nice hardwood case with a rubber base so there is no slip. I also bought a new, handmade in USA, 12x3 inch strop. All these things replaced an old norton coarse/medium stone, a fine DMT which i had bought a while ago and loved, an arkansas stone, and a cheapo strop. I was just wondering what level of polish a can achieve with this grit progression and a strop and how fast will i be getting a set angle with the extra coarse?

Thanks for everything,
Nick

Just an FYI the "extra fine" DMT (which is what I use so I'm not at all saying it isnt good) is only 1200 grit. It makes a great edge but if your going for polished I'd recommend another stone before you start the strop. DMT makes a limited edition "medium extra fine" stone which is ~4k grit (since extra extra fine is a big step up to 8k) but personally I use a DMT C, F, EF (300,600 &1200) followed by a spyderco ceramic (~2500) stone and then don't bother with the strop and I can cleanly read reflections in my bevel.

As for how fast the C and even the 600 grit F DMT's cut all I have to say is be careful, its no hard to do damage.
