DMT DMG-4 kit, any good?

Hi,

I'm looking at the DMG-4 kit from the DMT. I've got a few knives, nothing fancy, some SAK, some Leatherman (including the TTI Charge w/ S30V and the Skeletool CX w/ 154CM), and random assorted other knives. It looks like this kit has just about all the grits you'd need to sharpen just about anything, and the little aligner guide looks handy to keep me from goofing up my collection until sharpening is natural.

Does anybody have any experience with this kit? Is it good? If so - any suggestions where to buy? I'm open to alternatives, as well. I'm looking for something that will give great results. Shorter time investment is nice, but I'm more concerned with good results. I currently have a "Smith" kit, which I've been very unhappy with the guide part - it doesn't hold a blade firmly if it's anything but a SAK/nearly flat blade. Also, the stones aren't the greatest. It's cutting paper sharp when I finish with it, but nothing more.

Now that I've got the harder blades, I'd like something to keep them in tip top shape before they get dull, so the finer stones of the DMT kit are appealing.

All suggestions/tips/advice welcome, and thank you very much!

David

I tried one months ago and didn't care for it. Too much play in the whole thing for my liking. I felt I couldn't get consistent enough angles and would be reworking the old angle every time I used the thing. FWIW, I've decided last week to get the Edgepro Apex. After hearing so much good about the thing I finally decided to save up for one and take the plunge. I've used just about every other sharpening system out there but never got the great results I wanted. Hopefully the Edgepro will get me where I want to be. Good luck with whatever you decide.
