DMT Duosharp Base ?

I just bought a DMT 4x10 Duosharp on ebay (Click here to view) and I was thinking about getting the base for it.

I would like to hear from others that have bought the base first.

Is the base useful or do you find yourself using your Duosharp without the base even though you have the base?

It looks like it would be handy to have, but I don't need another $20 peice of junk

I have two of these, blue/red and blue/green, with the stand. I keep the red side up in the stand and use the "nonskid mat" to hold the other stone on top of the first. The stand allows me to not worry about a knife's handle scales hitting the table if only using the 1/4" stone alone.

I like the stand.

I received my DMT in the mail today

Wow, it is big. I was using the 2x6" DMT's.

Before I bought it I drew a 4x10" rectangle on a piece of paper to try and get some idea how big it would be.
It's still bigger then I thought. I love the size. It size works great with my larger kitchen knives and razor edge guides.


The nonskid pad that comes with it seems to work well and if you have a table with a corner that you can use to lay it on the knife handle clears without any problems.

I can see were the base would be very useful though and I'm going to order one.

Yea they are BIG. But use them on the big kitchen knives and they get small fast.

Don't forget to use light pressure on the stones. Let the diamonds do the cutting.
