Hi, so I realize I've been asking alot of sharpening related questions lately....

Have any of you tried the DMT diamond sharpeners?

what questions do you have about diamond sharpeners?

p.s. there are many companies that make diamond sharpening equipment.

I have the DMT Aligner set with the extra course and extra extra fine stones.

I like it a lot. I'd never been able to sharpen anything before. I can get any mid-sized knife shaving sharp. It's no so good for really small or really large knives.

What I like about it is it helps you get a feel for what you should be doing free hand.

Well, which one would be best for under $30, that would be good for S30v steel..

if you want diamond and you don't have/really want experience free-hand sharpening, your best bet would probably be smiths diamond kit (model# DPSKP). they run around $30.

p.s. i don't have any experience with sharpening kits, i do all of my sharpening free-hand.

I have a set of DMTs that I put in my backpack when I go camping. They are nice, quick little sharpeners for when I strike a rock or need to repair an edge. However it depends on what you are trying to do, if you just want to put a workable edge on get them, but of you are looking to polish and perfect your edge, get a system such as the Wicked Edge or similar.

I like DMT. I have diafolds in coarse/x-coarse and fine/x-fine, and the larger bench stones with smooth surfaces, both fine and x-fine. They all work well.

I have a dmt aligner and a set of three six inch stones (coarse, fine, and extra fine). They work fantastic, but are over $30. You can probably find an aligner kit for around $45 if you hunt a little. My three 6" set I found for $60, but that was luck.

Eze lap stones are a little bit cheaper. You can probably find a double sided 6" for near your price range.

I've tried the sharpmaker and didn't get the hang of it so I ended up getting the DMT Duosharp 8" benchstone. If youre worried about getting the angles properly with a freehand stone, use two quarters behind the spine of the blade as a guide. I couldnt be happier with DMT.

I have had several DMT sharpener products over the last 17+ years and have had great results with them.

I recommend the DMT Diafolds the most for easy portability and ease of use.

(I find it easier to use smaller stones than full-sized bench stones though.)

i love my my DMT Diafolds , keep one in my backpack for when i go hiking or even camping ,,light weight , very easy too use
