Hey Guys/Gals,

I'm looking to get a 6" DMT X-Coarse stone to lay upon my Sharpmaker. What is a good price to pay and where from? Any word on when the Sharpmaker diamond rods are due out?

Thanks in advance!!

Not sure when the sharpmaker diamond rods will be out but I would never use a x-tra coarse stone to sharpen a knife. This stone is for reprofiling a blade or to sharpen lawn mower blades. Just get a fine and x-tra fine and hand sharpen it as a bench stone.

I have all the DMT stones and I say, get one of the extra course models if you do any heavy sharpening. I use mine all the time, but then I think all factory knives have to be reprofiled. It seems to me that all factory knives have this steep bevel that has to be worked down before you can get that good, scary edge. Just make sure you have some of the finer stones to remove any scratches on your blade.

Thanks for the reply's! Oh yeah, I guess I should have clarified that I'm in need of some re-profiling action. So, what's a good price for a 6" X-coarse and from where?

Thanks again!!

I think the 6" version goes for about $35. The bigger ones are a lot more expensive.

Bayou Lafourche has four 6" DMT stones for $29.23 each. The store didn't seem to have any sharpeners. Doubt you'll do much better than Roger at BL.
