DNA shows man a descendant of Genghis Khan

Now that's pretty dang cool. I kinda wish I was a decendant of Genghis Khan. Thats just bragging points.

The leap to Gengis seems questionable. Now if they had a tissue sample from the old mongolian conqueror it would be different.

Ghengis Khan owes me 20 bux. Since you're a relative I get to sue you to get it back.

"My first impression was, 'Oh no, who is it' — imagining it was Adolf Hitler or something like that," said Robinson, 48. "So I was actually pleasantly surprised."

Oh yeah, good ole' Genghis had nothing on Hitler...

"Robinson thinks his forebear, whose name has long been a byword for violence and cruelty, has had a bad press.

"In addition to being a conqueror, he was a great administrator," said Robinson, who has been reading up on Genghis Khan. "Their system of governance was fairly sophisticated."

Hey, let's all dance around! A great conqueror and tyrant administrated a fairly sophisticated system of governance! They all work well when you kill off those that disagree with you. Worked for Stalin and the rest!

I'm sorry for the rant, folks. This kind of crap just gets to me. If you're descended from Khan or anyone else, that's pretty cool historically. But don't try to minimize the suffering that historically significant person caused, however advanced his policies. Or else we may be doomed to a future where folks say the Hitlers, Stalins, Maos, Hutus, and all the others throughout history, written and unwritten, "weren't so bad...really."

Time must heal wounds, especially without memorials to remind us, or victims who remember. But the atrocities were just as bad; and worse.

Once again, I apologize for my harsh words. Thank you all for letting me vent it: I hope no one was too offended.

Take care.

I wouldn't worry about it either way.

Translation: "Well, Genghis was the most powerful man around at that time so obviously, any surviving descendants from the people of that area must be related to him."

I'm in agreement with Howard. Forget about jumping to a conclusion; this guy was shot from a conclusion cannon.

Actually, Genghis' empire did a lot of things correct.

From wikipedia:

Before becoming a Khan, Temüjin [Genghis' birthname] united the many Turkic-Mongol confederations of Central Asia, giving a common identity to what had previously been a territory of nomadic tribes.

The Mongol Empire practiced religious tolerance to a large degree because it was generally indifferent to belief. The exception was when religious groups challenged the state. For example Ismaili Muslims that resisted the Mongols were exterminated.

He did some other notable things, just check out the page on him. Not that any of this justifies all the conquesting he did, among other things....

Either way, DNA linkage to the man doesn't seem to be uncommon from various things I've read. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descent_from_Genghis_Khan
