Hi, guys!

Those of you who've done blade swaps, is that something that you'd send back to Spyderco to do? Do they do them? If you do them yourself, will it void the warranty? Is it an easy thing to do it yourself? I've done it once; but it was on a Benchmade...and I just sent the two knives in, to avoid any issues (read: user error).

What I'd like is to put my favorite steel (from a sprint run) into "basic black"; then I'd probably sell the "FrankenSpydie". Or, if possible, I'd love to just get black scales on the sprint, if Spyderco does that....that would save me from having to get a black one to do the exchange.

What do folks who do blade swaps usually recommend?

Thanks, guys!

I've done swaps myself. It's no big deal if you think about what you're doing. I think it'll void the warranty though, but honestly, if the the knife doesn't have any defects when I bought it, then I couldnt care less.

That being said, why don't you do a scale swap instead of a blade swap?

I disassemble this PM 2 brand new.....toughest part is popping the lanyard tube which acts as a snap button. But changing the blade of a sprint to a regular black don't make much sense since the Sprint is worth a lot more dough.

Doesn't make much sense to whom? I don't care. I don't buy knives as "investments". I buy them as knives. I like them black. Makes perfect sense to me, don't you think?

Thanks for the inputs, guys! I wasn't sure how the PM2 was constructed...it does look like scales would be easy to swap out. Two more questions, if I could. Can you buy scales separately, or would you still need a "donor".

And, FlaMtnBkr, what dye do you use? Does the original color affect the shade, or can you get a good new color with enough applications?

Thanks!

BTW: I don't think Spyderco sell replacement scales? But there are aftermarket once out there.

Wow....that's beautiful! You did that yourself? The carving, too?

See, I would totally carry that!

I wish...that's some major CNC machinery to achieve that. Those are John Grimsmo scales $130 shipped. His productions are in small lots and they sold out fast. His website actually have one last set of this dragon scale red spatter. He ain't making any more.

Here's another set of John Grimsmo scale....totally different from black. I like my knives to have different personality.

I love the texture...not a good fan of gold as a base; don't mind it as trim (especially on black). That knife would be great in green or navy.
