Do all bowies need to be more than 10 inches long?

According to legend, Jim Bowie's original knife was 2inches wide, quarter inch thick and 12 inches long.

Since then, all bowies have been around that length, give or take 2 inches.

When someone jumps up and shouts "Bowie", do we expect to see a bigger than normal knife?

When the knife is less than 10inches long, can it be considered a bowie?

In today's world of knives, what are the standards that are attached to a bowie knife? Does bowie also mean long, big and deadly?

No, not really.

Most Bowies are 9" or better and it more of a blade style designed for fighting. Balance is blade forward to give the knife more chopping power, but keeps the point thin enough for easy penatration.

I have 2 CS Trail Master Bowies 9 1/2" :D

And One CS Larado Bowie 10 1/2" :)

The Bowie Knife (Design) Was made for knife fighting....The Long Blade gives you more reach, the heavy thick blade is very tough and the "False edge was sharpened" for back cutting...Yes it is a very good design and very effective. :)

I don't think it would be wise for anyone with a folding knife to make someone mad that has a Bowie knife in his hand.....LMAO
