Some of our forumites are well known for "tweaking" and sharpening the blade, making scabbards, replacing handles, blueing and/or etching the blade, and repairing abused or broken khukuries. Does anyone actually do metal engraving, or know someone who does? Thanks!

Dan :)

I have access to a pantograph engraving machine and a laser engraver. Is that what you mean, or a hand engraver?

Hi Steven:

I have a khuk that has a nice engraving on the blade, but I'd like it to be engraved deeper, and more defined; definitely keeping true the original design. I know it can be done by hand engraving, but am not sure whether it could be done with a laser. Please let me know what you are able to do, and thank you very much for your post!

Dan :)

gravertom - you got email coming....hope you see this thread.

hey Guys,

yeah, the funeral director thing is pretty good! :D

I've also been accused of being more serious than the average person!

I do hand engraving, so i should be able to handle what you are looking for. I will have to take a look at it, but following up old engraving is not generally too time consuming or costly.

I have been able to cut on one of my sirupatis, Nothing worth showing yet.

Dan will reply to your e-mail later this evening.

My website shows some of what i have been doing, but prices are harder to estimate, since there can be a lot of variables. I will do my best to work with anyone that is interested though. The gun and knife marketplace don't bear the prices i can get for jewelry related engraving at all.

I am slammed right now, before vacation. If this keeps up, I may not be able to take that job even if they offer it to me! :)

Talk to you all later,

Tom

grave you say? "only compared to some" (old princess bride reference!)

Dan, if Tom can't fit you in, send me an email. I have had several knife guards and blade flats engraved, and the last project I did I approached a new engraver. She did a beautiful job on the guard of a custom elephant ivory handled fighter and it was on very hard material to boot. I can send you a pic if you like. She also does scrimshaw, if you needed that type of work done.

Gravertom in on the list here, and knows khuks and so it makes good sense to use him, but if you need an alternate for any reason then please let me know.

Regards and good luck!

Norm
