come with a metal sheath anymore? I love the WW2 vintage bayonet stuff, but I'd like something with better steel and more modern. Or even replica WW2 knives?

Thanks

The german FallschirmJager knife... takes an excellent edge too, till you run it across the throat of the scabbard... They were imported in large numbers in the late 80's and sold for as little as $20 (us) in surplus stores. I can't find them at retailers anymore, but as many that were imported, someone's gotta have one somewhere...

Hi,

I have three of the following:

The Hanwei WWII German Short Guard Army Trench Knife and sheath are well made. I haven't really used it enough to vouch for the quality of the steel used. It does sharpen up well.

The India made WWII reproduction is also well made. It does not come with much of an edge on it. I haven't got around to trying to sharpen it.

The German issue knife is very well made. I like mine very much. It is well ground and holds an edge. The handles are some type of synthetic material
(plastic or resin). You can remove the top of the scabbard to get at the spring clip. Cover it (the clip) with mole skin or some thin leather for a quiet draw.I found mine at a swap meet, but see them at gun shows and on ebay.

Regards,
Greg

You guys are the best! I like all your suggestions! Like me do some Bladeforum searching to get more info. In your opinion, which of these is the higher quality knife?

John, that is a Hitler Youth knife copy, the blade length listed reflects the OAL and most specimens I've seen are scrap, someone mentioned the german FallschirmJager knife, but that is a sliding gravity knife of very good quality, not a fixed blade in sheath.Someone else mentioned this link

which a friend owns($20.00 gunshow purchase) a sample of and loves it.tom.

That´s the shape/style of the knife that I have, my impression is that the replicas are usually made just to look at and the good ones, while having the same style, do not have the swastika symbol.

Mine has a simple diamond shaped shield, the ones I´ve seen with boy scout logo (fleur de lis) are smaller (kid sized) and don´t pretend to be an original Nazi knife.

After searching around on the internet I feel that I wouldn´t buy one of these online, I would like to handle it beforehand in the store, I´ll check mine later on today for a maker mark or brand name.

I checked my German knife last night, Nazi youth pattern, it has no name or brand mark at all, only stamped INOX ROSTFREI on the blade, which just means its stainless, the shield is a diamond with a fleur de lis like the boy scout symbol, the blade is 5 1/2 inches long and has saw teeth on the spine (which I don´t like). Its well made and has a good edge (though it hasn´t seen much use really). The sheath is black painted aluminum, is ambidextrous with a spring inside that puts a bit of pressure on the blade to help hold the knife in (and has made some scratches).

The only one I have seen is the cas Iberia hanwei german ww2 trench knife. As far as the quality of these, could not vouch, never handled one.
