Do any of you guys carry and use a coffee can when camping/hiking. I have several of Ron Hood’s videos and have seen him use the cans in many ways ranging from water storage to trapping birds. I’m thinking about adding this item to my pack list. I’m very curious to learn more practical applications for this seemingly simple item. If you have any ideas and suggestions pass them along.

i use a stainless steel "can" for stuff like that, no rust, doubles as a pot/cup or storage when out berry pickin..

Hey Soup,
Take a look at this site, http://www.woodsdrummer.com/ Eric is a fan of the coffie can pot, and actually made a bigger pot out of a V-8 can IIRC. Great site with a lot of other useful tips and ideas. I just made a pot recently and it will be getting it's first workout this weekend camping with my son.

I despise even setting foot in the place, but look at the Ecko brand grease pot carried by Wal-Mart.

I carry both a SS camp cup and a SS canteen cup in my gear. There have been a few times that I've found a large coffee can in a dump or an abandoned camp and I've put them to good use, but I won't carry one in my gear.

I use to use the coffee can but I found the stainless steel cook sets being sold as surplus from sweden for around 8$, easy to clean and no more tin taste in the water.

Well, I decided to go high tech instead of using a coffee can. The UPS man just broght me my Jetboil that I ordered from T.A.D. Gear. I'm very impressed with how small and light it is. It is pretty cool how everything is stowed away, fuel included, inside the can untill you need it. I'm looking forward to testing it out and seeing if it truly lives up to all the hype.

..however the local fleamarkets/2nd hand stores often sell soup pots/sauce pans of all types(SS being my favourite).I remove plastic handles and drill 2-4 holes around rim to hang a sturdy wire for handle. :)

Pastor: do tell us about it after you use it. It's on my list, but I sure would like to hear it's as good as it looks before parting with the hard earned.
