Hello, I have a question for my fellow forum members do any of you own a knife or knives that belonged to your grandma?

I own two small knives that belonged to my grandma and they were her EDC Knives.

They are a small keychain size single bladed lock back folder with dark red grips and a keychain size electrician's knife.

An they show signs of hard use very hard use.

Yep. Well, kind of. I have a knife that my grandfather kept as a memory of his brother who passed away as a young teenager. It's a small peanut sized traditional. It's got a single backspring, black... Plastic (?) handles, two carbon steel blades. It's one I'll never get rid of to say the least.

Doh!, misread the post, thought you said "grandpa". In that case... no, no I don't :/.

Yes I do own my Grandmother's knife!

She gave it to me when I was finished with my 3 years at a wooden boatbuilding school.

It was made by a Sami knifemaker at the polarcircle in the north of Sweden, somewhere around 1950.
The sheath was made of a whole Reindeer antler and that made it a wallhanger in my Grandmother's livingroom.
She took it from the wall and gave it to me.

Since then I have used it occasionally, until I got a half finished Samisheath from the same region.
I finished the sheath and nowadays use the knife for foodprep, when hiking or camping.

Some years ago I made a journey up to the polarcircle and met people who knew the maker.
I wrote down the story on another forum, but it sure was a great experience!

Here it's used for cutting airdried reindeermeat inside my van during the trip.

Here with a smaller Samiknife from a private collection.

Yes, I have a few kitchen knives that were my grandmother's. I'm sure she used them every day for some of the most important tasks (feeding her family). During the depression, I'm sure they worked extra hard;)

No, but I did have a very nice fixed blade(bird &Trout size) that was my mothers. Unfortunately it was stolen along with the rest of my collection including those from my grandfather, It was an inside job and I was able to get a number of them back, but not my mothers.

three butcher knifes , one is probably close to one of the sharpest knives I own.

I use my grandmother's sharpening stones quite often. I go to her house every now and then and maintain her kitchen knives.

I have an old Western "Shark" from mid-forties that belonged to my grandfather. He gave it to me when we went to Colorado in mid-seventies and I carried it on my belt the entire trip, hiking in the mountains. I still have the original sheath. Sorry for the terrible photo.

I have a Joseph Rogers & Sons butcher knife that belonged to my grandmother (maybe even my great grandmother) that I still use in the kitchen today .

Grandpa, yes. Grandma, no.

I've even got two knives my grandpa made out of old files. They work great, and I still use em.

Lol, my grandmother carried an old Italian switchblade stiletto. She played the piano/organ at church. I never would have dreamed that she carried a switchblade in her purse. It now resides comfortably in my safe.

Yes,Sabre made in Japan of stainless steel. It was always in her pocketbook.

Putting the photo of your Grandmother in the post is a nice touch. Well done.

I don't have any knives from my grandparents, but I do have a butcher's steel that my parents used when they lived next door to my Grandparents on a ranch in New Mexico. Both houses were just a few feet apart. I assume that the steel was used by both families some point or another. It has not been the case in the past, but , now days, that steel gets used more than any other steel that I own.
