I know this sounds stupid, but I keep having this question pop into my head when a slag sticks to my striker. There are also scorch marks, and carbon traces. Any opinions??

I think this has been discussed and the consensus was that the volume of hot material wasn't enough to do damage to the heat treat.

Haven't had any issues. Usually use my striker, but if I use the knife spine, the gunk just wipes off. Scratches remain, no biggie.

Use the spine , not the edge.

There are several obvious reasons to not use the edge of your knife , IMO.

Used to use the edge of my pilots knife to spark the rod of a mag block a lot...never had any issues because of it.

Very little chance of harming the knife but with the super striker from going gear, who would ever use his knife again. It works much better than a knife and eliminates any chance of hurting the knife or yourself.
