Do I buy a classic plain large Sebenza, or a micarta large Sebenza?

Should I get a large classic Sebenza, or should I get a large micarta Sebenza?

I'm planning on getting a large Sebenza this December, I really like my small micarta. I've had a hard time forcing myself to carry my small micarta, but when I do, I actually have a fun time using it, if anyone can understand that. Maybe its just because I'm carrying a Sebbie. Anyway, I would like to see if you guys and gals think that there is really a need for me to get a large micarta, or will a classic be fine.

I say since you already have a micarta one, get the large plain. You can always get another Sebbie!! There is no such a thing as having too many Sebbies!!

I'd say, a classic will work for everything, it would be "enough".

But I personally prefer my lg. micarta over my classic as I have a better grip on it...and not to forget the incredible looks! ;)

First of all, my knives are all users. Theres nothing wrong with collecting knives but it's not for me. Bearing that in mind I went with a large, classic, plain jane Sebbie. I figure this knife will outlive me and I could'nt see micarta holding up like regular ol' titanium. Really it's whatever blows up your skirt.

Given how you feel about using the small micarta, I'd say get the large classic. You need to get one you'll actually use because you can't fully appreciate a Sebbie unless you put it to work. Maybe you should consider getting a used one so you really feel comfortable using it and scratching it up. Used ones show up in the for sale forum.

And remember, a used, sctratched up Sebbie can be refurbished to look new again for a nominal price.

There are several "That depends . . ." in your question. From what you've told us, I'm concluding the following:
  • You really like the micarta.
  • You like to keep things looking nice, and you're a bit worried about EDCing a sebbie from that standpoint.
  • Price is not your primary factor.
Preferring the micarta is understandable from an ergonomic standpoint -- it feels very good and secure. It looks good, very distinctive. It will not show wear like a plain finish because there are no large, scratchable surface areas. Although I don't EDC a micarta, the people that do that I've talked with say that it wears VERY well. KeithAM's closing statement makes a key point -- CRK's refurb service is REALLY good (I've used it myself on 2 sebbies), and it's very inexpensive for what you get. If my conclusions are correct, my vote would be for you to pamper yourself and go for the large micarta. That way, you'll have a matching pair (Stjames has shown me the value in that aspect of collecting :)), you'll optimize your enjoyment carrying them, and when it comes time to spiff them up, CRK will be ready.

I started off with a plain large Classic MM Sebenza. Then saw a small Classic MM with micarta inlays on eBay and purchased that. Both has its place in my EDC lineup. I'd say if you could, get the large with the micarta inlays because the inlays makes for better grips.

Get the micarta version, no telling how long CRK will keep making it.

The plain classic should be around for a very long time. :)

I have a large plain classic. If I could swap it for a large micarta I would do it in a second (throwing in the extra cash of course). Not that I dislike the plain one but the micarta would be that much nicer. When I bought my plain one the micarta wasn't offered though.

Yah, large Micarta

How do I submit my vote on this one ?
Micarta is my vote.
Thanks.

Ya gotta go Gold or higher in order to be able to post a poll or vote on one...

I'd have to go with the large Micarta. I have one now in my pocket. I put a killer edge on it with my Edge Pro. It's a great user and a little more dressy than the plain. Go for it.

Scott, just wondering, did you sharpen it on the angle from the factory, or did you reprofile it all on the EdgePro?
