Do I have to wait until my paid membership expires to renew?

My Gold Membership expires on 11/5. The FAQ section discusses the topic but the wording makes it sound like I have to wait until my membership expires to renew. It's kind of unclear though. I would rather just go ahead and renew now as long as it won't mess anything up.

Can I renew now without causing any problems? If so, will I still need to change my usergroup after 11/5?

I've been renewing before my membership expires for a few years now, and Spark has never sent me a nastygram for it. I haven't had to change group memberships, either.

I did and I have had no problems. if you look and pay for 2 years it seams to be cheaper.
 
It's actually the best way. No gap in Gold membership, no need to change your user group.
 
Yeah, if you use the auto-system it will just extend out your membership further. If it expires then you have to change it.
