Do I need to use the 1/2 skinny stones to sharpen recurves or can I get by with the regular sized ones?

You can use regular stones you just need to carefully tip them on their side and use very light or no pressure. Id be carefull as you can shave off some of your stone this way. When you do the sharpie trick make sure the stone is on its corner in the position you plan on sharpening it in , Tipping the stone like that will raise your angle slightly.
