So I have a bk10 but am thinking about selling it to get a bk9. Will it do everything a 10 will but do it better or should I stick with the 10?

Everyone needs a BK-9. Some of us need more than one. That being said I think you should keep your BK10 and save up for the BK9. Then save up for the BK16. You will then have a wide range of Beckers to handle nearly every situation.

The 16 is good for everyday use. A nice slicer but tough enough you don't have to pamper it. The 10 still slices well but is even tougher than the 16. Then there is the 9, which can still do some slicing but is oriented toward heavy duty tasks like chopping.

depends - what do you want to do with your 10 that you feel it lacks the ability to do well?
the 9 is a better chopper and will do an easier job of cutting through an entire shoulder roast, but the 10 will be easier to handle/maneuver for most camp and food prep chores.
a 10 (or a 16) and a folding saw will do just about anything you could want a 9 for -- and will do a lot of "smaller" tasks a lot easier to boot.

Here is what I do..... I have a couple Condor machetes which are larger than the B-9 that I use as choppers. I carry one if I feel I will need to chop, but seldom have that need. The BK-16 or any number of 4-5" fixed blades can do larger blade work along with the Silky saw. Then carry a folder for slicing and detail work. I find that the majority of my cutting is done with the folder anyway.

I know how appealing the big blades are, so I think you should probably just save up for a BK-9 and get this past you. The BK-10 is a good knife. You will find the size that you're comfortable using and for what tasks.

By the way, on the Becker Forum, the standard comment is "You need a BK-9."

I wouldn't get rid of the BK-10 if I were you. If it's been used, you won't get much for it since they go for about $80.- new.

Try to save up for the BK-9, it's a great knife. I bought one a while ago because I don't use a large fixed blade often and I wanted to get a good one for those few occasions when I need one, but without spending too much money. I'm quite happy with my purchase.
