Do i need to raise a burr everytime?

Hey guys i just sharpened my knives the "correct" way by raising the burr on both sides and then polishing it off. I have a question in regards to sharpening after it has taken the intial scary edge off or has worn off. Do i need to reburr agains and continue or can i just go to my soft arkansas stone and polish it back up? I used my knives for scraping deer hide membrane off and now the desired edge to do so has left(usally about 1 hide for my Buck Special) and am wondering if i can bring back that same edge with so arkansas stone time? Thanks
 
No you don't. Raising a burr is simply a convenient way to be sure that you have reached the edge. For light sharpening you don't need to do it as long as you have some other test for sharpness. In fact you are best off if you don't raise a burr for light sharpening. Be sure to alternate left-side/right-side edge-forwards honing strokes to minimize burr formation.

PS. Maybe you should get a knife that holds its edge longer. Try the Cabela's special Buck Vanguard Alaskan Guide model with S30V alloy blade.

Thanks i don't know much about steels and the knives i use consist of 420 High carbon steel(buck knives) and there great for gutting and there sharp but they don't last long at all. S30v is a superbe edge holder? Thanks for the info.

S30V is a premium stainless steel, I've been very pleased with it's performance on my Spydie Military.
