Small 21's are probably my favorite CRK. I tried a 25 but found it a little heavy...the question is

Do I need an Umnum or a Large 21, help me decide!

No experience with a zann, what is the difference in the old pivot vs new? Which is more desirable?

I too have become a big Small Sebbie fan. Didn't care for the 25 so mine didn't stay. Had a Large Starbenza and it was excellent, however I actually liked the Zaan even better. Since you must already own a small sebbie, my recommendation would be to try a Zaan. As for pivots, the new is easier to take apart, but I think most consider the old pivot more "desirable" since it is no longer in production. If there were a hex in the center of the old pivot, to me it would be a no-brainer.

If you found the 25 too heavy, the Zaan is only 0.2oz lighter I believe. That's not much difference. I love my Zaan, but it's a large knife. I think the large 21 might suit you better. I will try to take some pictures comparing the two later. As for the pivot, my Zaan has the newer one, so I can't really comment. I would prefer the current version since it doesn't require a special tool to open.

It's the blade that's got me locked in right now, so cool looking on a high end folder!

Just because it's so different from a sebbie I'm leaning Zaan right now.

So they come in at 5.4oz? And thanks, pictures would be helpful!

Also lets not even pretend I'm not gonna get both at some point haha...just trying to decide which is next!

If youse guys didn't have the dainty little hands, the 'Zaan would feel great :p

Just not sure how anyone can like the 'Zaan and not like the 25...but it's just a matter of preference I guess.

No, the 25 is listed as 5.2oz, and the Zaan is only 0.2 oz lighter at 5oz. I should be able to take some pics when I get home this evening.

Simple, I loath the finger grooves, especially since they force your finger right over the upturned pocketclip end. I've actually got fairly big hands, but the Micarta inlays on my small sebbie make it work for me.

I just got MY new Zaan yesterday in the mail (birthday December of 2014). Just want to say I LOVE it. I have a large 21 micarta as well and while I do love the 'zaan, I much prefer my 21. The lockbar on my Umnum is a pain in the ass. It's incredibly stiff and a very small area for my fat thumb to get at...consequently making my thumb hurt like hell.

While the umnum 'a lockbar sucks for me, I will say it is f'ing smooth as ANYTHING. Posibly smoother than my 21...granted my 21 is also new and yet to be broken in.

So, here are some pics, as I promised. Remember, the point I was making earlier was if your primary objection to the Sebenza 25 was its mass, the Umnumzaan isn't much better in that respect.

Thanks for that, yeah, I think I'll be looking towards the 21. I just got a zt 0452cf for my big carry knife and it carries a little bit better than my 25 did.

Thanks for the help guys, and the pics Jezza!

The Zaan. Its my favorite knife ever made, by anyone. And ive had a lot of knives. I have large 21's but my Zaan is my #1 blade, as far as how much i enjoy using it. It doesnt feel heavy to me in the pocket, but if the 25 was too heavy, most likely the zaan will be too at 5.0 oz.

What are the anodized parts in the trays? I am assuming you do some assembly of some sort.

Nice Umnumzaan btw :)

The 21 and the zaan are by far my favorite knives, I've let go of all my folding knives except my SAK, zaan and 21. I've owned two 25's and they just aren't for me, as the major attraction to the sebenza for me was the excellent bushing design and I don't like the finger grooves of the 25. I'm not saying the 25 is a bad knife I just like the 21 better. The zaan is a different beast, like the 21 it's very low maintenance and has a great grind - I was very impressed with the design of the zaan with the ceramic ball that not only serves as the detent but is also the lock contact - pure genius.

Edited: Bhyde meant to quote your post.
I am a locksmith by day, knife fanatic by night lol.
Theyre pins, that go inside your locks on your doors to keep ya safe ;)
and thank you!

I would have to agree with some others that the Umnumzaan is my favorite knife. If you are concerned about the weight but want the size, you could always try a carbon fiber iteration!

Anybody else think a ZaanSingo would be cool?

That would definitely be interesting! I think there would have to be some different spine work on it to make it different, though.

My dream Zaan would be a Wilson Combat with a Tanto blade. I have considered buying both and doing a blade swap
