"Do-it yer self" question?

It seems like a LOT of guys order knives KNOWING without question that they will strip, rip, undo and re-do
the entire knife.

Here comes the question.

How come don't MR. BUSSE offer a knife kit that would include a semi-finished blade, scales and rivet do-hickies?

Busse would save time and money. Customers could tinker without having to destroy before a build, and everybody is happy!

What say?

Jerry probably is able to appeal to a wider comsumer base by selling them assembled and finished--ready to go; plus when the company first started one of their main goals was that they wanted to provide top notch tools to law enforcement and military...Busse has the stellar reputation they do based on their enduring business model...but, that is just the humble opinion of one guy (me;-)

that being said I do like your idea though...I've not done it before but I would definitely buy such a Busse "kit" if it were available.

Warranty and reputation alone would preclude this, sooner or later some ham fisted Neanderthal (such as me) would do an abomination of a job finishing such a kit and then sell it off as a "Busse" .... legends then grow from there about the now "poor fit and finish of new Busses" and years of reputation building may be damaged (because the internet allows untruths to spread so easily). It would not be worth jeopardising a lifetime of work for the perceived needs of the enthusiast.

excellent answer, no one including myself would want a knife that I had any part in modifying. with Busse's no questions asked warranty a "kit" in the hands of the unqualified would be nothing but trouble. that being said it would be awesome if a scale change was as easy as ordering a new set off the website.

Indeed. Give me new scales please. Oh, they don't fit perfectly, I'll fix that, by hand, with a sanding sponge, going slowly.

Boom done. Let's get r dun crew!

Yup- this will never happen-to many things could go wrong

For a while you could special order a knife with "Competition Finish," which was an uncoated blade without the Satin or Double Cut treatment. Even though this was something you had to special order, there were apparently enough complaints that the finish wasn't up to snuff (or something like that) that they quit offering them at all. For Busse, it was just more trouble than it was worth.
