test the number of open/close cycles any given folder will last?

they should:jerkit:

I have been opening and closing my Kershaw Leek for three years now... (Whenever I am bored and able)... This thing is still working fine. I don't see what this would accomplish.

I know that archery companies have machines to dry fire bows hundreds of times. They also use machines to test the limbs.

I wouldn't be surprised if knife manufacturers had some way of testing the strength of their locks.

I fail to see what would be accomplished for manufacturers to give knives to Bladeforum members to "test".

Well, since that is what we do mostly while reading the forums, it would be a win-win for both;)

this is mainly a 'tongue in cheek post. [boring day]

I think it's a great idea! They should pay us $50 an hour. After all, we're the experts. Let's see, if we play with knives for, say, 16 hours a day ...

There is clause in my contract that stipulates confidentiality for the company and prevents me from mentioning their name. Let me just say there are companies who recruit bladeforums members and the monetary rewards for conducting the test are substantial.

;)

Nice reply DANBO, a great asset by your name, can someone tell me how i can leave this EDIT off the end of my reply,I am a comp idiot.

(surprised) Knife companies can bribe us to play with knives?! (/surprised)

:) (Eeevil voice) "Excellent." (/eeeeeeeevil voice) :)

... then we might be able to better afford our habits!

Doesn't spyderco occasionally send a knife out on the passaround? They have a good reputation for listening to fans. Their forum is almost a springboard for new ideas.
