Do knives usually have a rough grind under dlc?

Do knives that are dlc coated usually have a rough grind under it? Not the cheap baked on coating but the proper dlc like Spartan blades does.

Seems unlikely, since the DLC is only a few microns thick. It's also used on surgical implants and valve stems.

I had a TRC knife in DLC that had a sandblasted finish underneath. Just a guess but I think it helped the DLC hold to the blade. Not that DLC really needs it though

I've seen at least one picture of a DLC coating removed from a CS Recon 1, and it was stonewashed underneath.

No wonder Busse doesn’t use it on their knives then.
