Do makers of custom slipjoints still jig bone?

I see a few custom slipjoints around and own a couple but they are usually handled in antler, smooth bone or some other natural material. I would like to see a maker do that really old style deep jigged bone you see on some of the nice older knives. Anyone still doing that?

There are many makers here who do so. Ken Erickson and Ken Coats, Richard Rogers, Enrique Pena, Keith Johnson, the folks at Wilfred Works and many others. It's not something that all makers employ or care to do but it is an art that several makers employ when building their knives and will do at customer request.

Yes there sure are! I have noticed a few by Ken Erickson with his own jigging that just blew my mind. This thread should be great :)

Elliot, I am pretty sure you posted this one on a Sunday? I remember being in awe of the jigging. Was this one by hand too?

Thanks,

Kevin

Yes, Kevin, it was. It was one of the first that I have owned that had covers jigged by hand.

aww thats nice! I would love to turn this into a picture thread!

Dave, if you like I can post some of mine that have covers jigged by the maker...let me know.

You know, if you ever thought of a custom knife that you would like to have made for you, just contact Elliott. Chances are good that he has one very similar to what you are looking for. His collection of custom slipjoints is just amazing. He is gracious enough to allow us to see some of them here. Thanks for posting those wonderful knives, Elliott.

Shucks, Ed, you're just trying to make me blush. :p

If you wanna see the real nice collections you've got to see Charlie's and Gus' and some of the fellas here and elsewhere that aren't as comfortable sharing their collections online (much to our loss).

That said, I'm very grateful to have been fortunate enough to gather the pieces I own.

Wow Mr Elliott, you're really spoiling us (again!) :) What great knives

Beautiful knives! I guess they DO some jigging! Beautiful jigging at that!

I've said it before, but seeing this newly-assembled array of knives from Elliot, I'm struck again by what an eye for proportion Ken Erickson brings to his jigging, and his ability to bring it to fruition. His jigging (not just the type, but the chosen size of the cuts within that type) is always so well-matched to the pattern and size of the knife for which he fashions it.

Yeah, he's okay...I guess...

:p

P.S. Appreciate the kind words.

Here's a couple of similar pattern knives by Ken Coats with different jigging:
