Do many makers have a catalog?

For those who don't have a web site, a catalog might be helpful for a customer who doesn't want to design a knife.
Would you say that writing to a maker is a waste of time? Better just to call?

I have been asked many times about having a catalog. I don't, but carry around a small album of some of my knife pics, which really has helped. It would really help business to have one, no doubt. I lost my best pics on an my old pc, so I am taking camera pics of everything now, just for the insurance purpose.

It is always best to call rather than write. When you call you can ask questions that you might not have thought to ask in a letter.

Many makers have catalogues, many others have pictures they will send you. There is usually a cost for this. I have always found the cost to be reasonable. It is usually three to five dollars, which includes postage.

AF, this is a good question. I wish more makers did have catalogs, even if they are black & white. This way I have an idea about the looks and shapes on their "standard knives" as well as different knives and options that they have done for previous customers. It's hard to talk with a maker when you haven't seen all his work or what he is capable of doing. I know makers who don't update their websites and recently found out that they are making all types of new knives that I haven't seen. And here's another 2cents worth. I once "talked" to a maker in person and on the phone and he still got the changes I wanted wrong. Pictures are worth a thousand words.
