Do new buck sheaths cause verdigris?

I haven't used a factory sheath in so many years, even for storage, without a sandwich bag around the knife. I'd like to store some everyday knives in factory sheaths in between rotation. Do newer (past 10 years) still green up knives?

Thanks, Pete

yep mine have 110s, not brass 119s and 120s etc weirdly.

on 110s if kept a long time it happens. some sheaths do it worse than others. havent quite figured that out yet. could be environmental as in more exposure to wet? where i am humidity is very high. highest in the country pretty much. so that has to have some effect. short term storage not so much a problem.

My 110 was made in I think 2012 and it will cause a bit to my 110 so it's only in my sheath when on my hip.

Nylon sheath: No.
Leather sheath: Yes, after a time.

A coat of wax on the bosters can help prevent it, if you store the knife in a leather sheath.

Thanks for the replies. I went online last night and it's ridiculous how cheaply you can buy cheap chinese sheaths. I bought a bunch to keep the rotation tamed but I it would be nice to have used all these leather sheaths for storage. I shove a grocery bag in the unused leather sheaths to keep their shape and put them in a box if they had one. So many don't though.

No cheap Chinese sheath here. USA leather, USA snaps now that i have found them. English thread. Seems Buck is moving their sheath business back to USA again. More and more have Made in the USA on them. A massive thumbs up to Buck.

It's the amount of copper in the brass. Just like a copper bracklet or ring turns your skin green. It's a chemical reaction.
Anyone who hunt's and keeps their ammo in a leather pouch can testify to that.
To me if your leather sheath doesn't turn your brass green then it isn't leather.

The distressed brown leather is a little bit worse than the standard black ones. Which kinda sucks since I like them better. Even if I plan on carrying the same knife and sheath combo for a couple days in a row, I don't even keep my knives in the sheath overnight. I just put them with my wallet and rest of my stuff for the next day.

Does anyone know if the nickel silver Bucks have a tarnishing issue with long term sheath use? My user is a C&C brushed nickel silver 112 which I pocket carry, but I would hate to hasten any tarnish.

How is it that brand new knives leave the factory in the leather sheath and appear clean and untarnished? Some having been in the box for a year or more.

None of my 6 Bucks (112 & 110's) came in a sheath. They were all wrapped in thin foam outside of the sheath.

I don't own any of Buck's fixed blades, but I saw a significant difference in the rate of tarnishing when I kept the folding knives in the sheath. As someone else said, the brown sheath is even worse. My 110 went from shiny brass to dull yellow in a matter of two days when I kept it in the brown sheath.

This doesn't stop me from using the sheath for carrying, but I pocket carry much more often because of it.

I have that same knife (black micarta I'm guessing) and I've never had a problem with it....

I carry all my 100's in vegtable tanned tandy leather custom sheath. no tarnish problem with it but knives rarely spend more than 2 days in it.
