Do people still wear ponchos?

There was a time during the Western cowboy spaghetti days when Clint Eastwood ruled the roost, the poncho was THE gear for tough men.

These days I almost never see it around anymore. I remember those days well. We boys used to drab old blankets and walk around thinking we are almost as rough and tough as that cowboy we saw in last night's movie.

But seriously though, does the poncho as any practical uses?

I would, if it blended in a bit. As Warthog says...it's a bit out of style ;)

But think of the huge knives you could hide under there! :D

I think they're still in style as raingear, at least for camping. I need to get a U.S. Army camo poncho with the liner -- that is one sweet setup.

"Who is the Gaucho, amigo? Why is he standing in that spangled leather poncho, with the stars that match your eyes?" Yeah, you Steely Dan fans know where it's at!

I keep it in the Rover all the time part of my BOB It's an old Indian banket from Mexico It was my best friends (he has passed away now) and I don't give a **** what people think, even though most people seem to think it's cool.
Remember if you think your cool everyone else will to and if they don't, it dosen't matter because the most important person in your life thinks your cool.

In Texas, I wore a Poncho in the rain a lot. Over time I have moved on to other gear that is more practical for my needs now. The only negative thing I can recall at the moment about the poncho is that it was not effective in very high winds.

Now, I wear an oil finish cowboy "duster". It works very well in real world use and it is great for those "Walter Mitty" fantasy days.
