Do pre-98 Delica molds still exist? Could more be made?

I just picked up a couple older model Delicas on ebay, and I really do like the old handle shape. I even like the old grip pattern better (I think the new one is excessively pointy). I got one of them in mint condition, but the other was well used.

Even in used condition these old knives are selling for $30, and they aren't all THAT rare either. There are always a few for sale. Surely a new one with better steel would sell for as much as the newer style.

Is the old equipment still around somewhere so a sprint run could be done in a new color (or even black, and I don't settle for that often) with a VG10 blade?

Does anyone else like the old handle as much as I do, or is everyone else just buying it for collector value? I plan on using mine, even though it is only AUS8.

I prefer the older Delicas too. Gave mine to a fellow soldier after I replaced it with a Emerson CQC-7 as my military EDC. Miss that knife, but I at least know it is being put to good use.

I have a couple of the older ones but since I'm left handed I like the 98 version better.
I've actually been carrying a Delica with the metal clip since 1998.
Rarely if ever leaves my side.

I know they switched to the steel clips because they had alot of FRN ones breaking off, but in the many year's I've owned mine I've fallen on it(humans were not meant to strap wheels to their feet), leaned against it, dropped it, and it's still fine. I actually carry it instead of my other knives many times because I know that the FRN clip won't scratch anything if I brush against it, such as someone's car. Also on some pants I wear steel clips tend to hang on the seam at the top of the pocket flap, no problems with my FRN ones. The only issue I've had is that they aren't as secure as a steel clip, so I can't wear them with very thin materials.

I thought I was the only one who likes the plastic clips, I love my dragonfly with molded clip.

very comfortable & wont scratch stuff.
