do purotabs have an expiration date?

That depends on the type and brand.

Does Potable Aqua® have an expiration date?
No, Potable Aqua® tablets are not required to have an expiration date. However, the Potable Aqua label does include a Lot Number that provides information regarding when the product was manufactured and, therefore, how old it is.

Oasis claims a five year shelf life.

Iodine products last for years unless you open the bottle. Then they last a few months.

Aquatabs claims five years in strips and three years in tubs.

Portable Aqua claims four year shelf life.

they kinda do, eventually heat and time will break them down and lessen or eliminate any effectiveness, so I wouldn't plan on caching them for long term use. I would feel pretty safe with replacing the supply every few years, unless you use them up faster. main thing I found was that the packaging could get pin holes over time, and that kills the tabs pretty quick. But you know thats happened because the tabs get soft and degraded looking. at least the chlorine tabs do.

They're katadyn micropur tabs. I actually just found an expiry date on the bottom of the carton , the second month of 2019. I need to buy a proper water filter for SHTF at some point. ATM only got those purotabs , a few ways to boil and a lifestraw
