Do SAK's make contact?

In particular, the main blade. Just curious because I've purchased a few lately and on two of them (brand new), there is some factory edge damage on the knife blade. It's right where the edge would "appear" to touch if it were to.

To add, I have been letting it snap shut but I've done this with all my saks and before now it's not something I have ever noticed. Haven't ever pieced a sak out so no idea how the stop mechanism works.

In my limited collection, I haven't had a SAK with blade rap.

Given that the pins are not used to stop the blade travel, the blades on the SAKs can be pressed down after it is closed to come in contact with the spring.

I haven't bought a new one in years and it is not something I've noticed on older ones. That said, it is physically possible for the blade to snap shut hard enough to impact the spring, especially if Victorinox has changed the spring tension of late.

I believe I was getting a little bit of blade rap at the tip on the tinker I had a few years ago, but haven't experienced this with any other Victorinox knife I've had.

I've never noticed any edge damage from (apparent) blade rap in the several Victorinox SAKs I've accumulated over the last 20+ years or so. Most recently, I bought an Alox Pioneer a few months ago. Also no issues there. But I DON'T let it snap shut too hard, maybe letting go of the closing blade in the last few degrees of the closing arc. The closing pull on the new Alox Pioneer is fairly strong, BTW. I've been impressed at the stoutness of that knife overall.

I think it's possible with well-built traditionals, and even expensive customs, to get some blade rap if the blade is allowed to snap shut hard from half-closed or more. If they don't make contact, that's great and I consider it a bonus. But I wouldn't fault the design or execution of the knife if the edge gets some damage from spring overtravel during a very hard-snapping closure.

Sharpen that baby up and snap'er again. It's gotta be close to being clear.
No rap on my Pioneer, Walker, SA7...

Agreed. It doesn't bother me at all because I know it won't be long before it sharpens out.

Obsessed with Edges Obsessed with Edges , you're probably right. I was letting in snap hard while admiring the fresh tension.
