Do Stealth pilots REALLY wear...

Do any of the Stealth pilots REALLY wear the Luminox Stealth watch, or is this more marketing fluff? It seems to be fairly solid, and very good looking, and I've been giving it serious consideration, but I might feel self-conscious if this was merely a wannabe type watch. One of my other choices was the Navy SEAL Steel Dive watch, which does not have any military associations written on the face.

Thanks,
Frank

Sure some of them might...but it's not an issue watch. Besides why would a Navy Seal be wearing a watch that said "Navy Seal" or a Stealth pilot be wearing one that says "USAF Stealth".

That and the other Luminox's all use the same case as the Stocker and Yale P650 (the real issue watch). You can get a new face insert, identical to the P650 face, and make it a 650 look-alike which is what I would do if I were you. Alternatively you could get the Traser version which isn't as much fluff as the Luminox. Or just get a Marathon Navigator, another real issue item.

Here is a pic of a Stealth with one of Bill's faces:

He has several other face styles available.

Wouldn't modding the watch kill the waranty? Is a watch like this expensive to repair if you have to pay for it, or would Luminox not touch it anymore? How about the tritium vials, if one of them breaks? Understand, my watch experience is limited to $30-40 watches, so $200 or more is a big expense.

BTW- I was looking at the SS Navigator watch over at TAD, and wondered why these military watches don't have date functions [many of them, anyway].

Perhaps the Navy SEAL SS Dive watch might be a better choice:

It seems to be pretty much the same as the Stealth in quality, minus the military associations on the face/back.

I wouldn't worry about the warranty. Bill does great work.

Have you looked at http://www.broadarrow.net

They have a great forum for military watch enthusiasts. You may get more info there.

one of my best buds works at randolph AFB launching/recovering T38 trainers, knows LOTS of instructor pilots, and he says the most popular watch is a rolex GMT its a status symbol to them, has been since the viet nam war, and purchased overseas, not that high......dont get me wrong, only a few have them, but they all want them lol.......other than the GMT its just a hodgepodge according to my bud, lotsa TAG's etc- but the GMT is 'the' pilots watch, from what i understand

maybe one/2 even wear the luminox..

I bought this watch for the size and overall "feel" of the black finished case and links. I know many people here object to the "tagging" of watches such as this with "military" designations, but if you're close enought to me to read the "USAF Stealth" markings on the face, you're WAY too close to me already.

I couldn't care less if the face said "Girl Guides of America".

How is the finish keeping up- does it scratch or otherwise ding easily? That was one of my main concerns about the watch.

Unfortunately, I'm not qualified to answer that - I just don't wear it enough, and when I do, I'm careful about rubbing it against anything that might scratch it. (I do have another Luminox with a brushed gray finish that has held up very well to much harder use.)

I find the "black" finish on the Stealth watch quite hard to describe - it's not, in my opinion, a true BLACK. More of a "gunmetal black", a deep charcoal. I find this finish much more attractive than, say, the black finish on a Sinn or a Porsche Design watch.
