i just got a CQC7B and it is So stiff.
i tried loosening the pivot but that just results in loose scales and blade.
is it meant to be this tough to open? its not like my oiled M16-12

I have not noticed any oil on mine when I received them. I would place a couple drops where needed. Many Emersons come out of the box very stiff. I would say to just to break her in a little. They will loosen up with use. Some have mentioned that they take it apart and oil it up a little bit, and that has helped them. I have taken one apart before to clean out, but I wouldnt take it apart to oil it up when it is brand new in box. That is just me though. If you keep working it, it will loosen up.

well i dont want to keep working it wirth no lube!
ill use a drop of motoroil(my favorite lube) around the pivot tonight.,
thanks for the very speedy reply

I have a "new knife" ritual that has served me well.

1) I put just a drop around the pivot when I first get it. After a day or two there will be a lot of black crud in the action. I'm guessing it's the washers wearing in, either way it's gritty and nasty.
2) I then do a complete disassembly to clean out all the crud, but before reassembling I apply Militec sparingly to the liners and blade using a Q-tip, only in the area that sees wear. You'll notice the perfect wear circles on liners and blade caused by the washers.
3) Then I put those very lightly oiled sections under a hot hair dryer. This heats up the oil and allows it to penetrate the metal.
4) Reassemble.. and use it like you stole it.

Hope this helps.

i will try that. my cqc7 is my crown jewel..i LOVE it and i dont want to harm my new baby..
does anyone notice the back of the blade that hits the crossbar/ the back spine or whatever. the crossbar takes the finish off the blade :<

That's normal. I would like no blade coatings. Just bare 154-CM! And remember, that's an Emerson knife---you can ROCK your baby!

Yeah but, you have to remember, this is an Emerson and wasn't made to be used gently. Go out and get it dirty. Each scratch and ding on mine is a badge of honor. They mean it is earning its keep.
