Do the Nitrous models have a detent?

Thinking about getting the Blitz or Torrent and was going to remove the Nitrous assist. This would not work if there is a lack of a detent to keep the blade
in the closed position. What's the verdict?

My Subrosa does not have a detent.

Edit: Just looked at it, it does have a detent, but I can't feel it when I slowly pull the knife open.

Arrg! Thanks Neverflinch. I love Benchmades with linerlocks but not opening assists. I usually carry left handed so when I carry righty
and I have an assisted opener, I end up pushing the blade open too slowly and follow thru with my thumb against the blades' edge.
I haven't had any serious cuts but I find it to be uncomfortable.

Did you see my edit? Mine has a detent on the lock bar, but normally when you close the blade it "pops" the in when it reaches the hole in the blade. This knife doesn't do that for some reason. I even found a video of a Subrosa clearly showing a detent, but for some reason I can't even feel the slightest resistance on mine when I try and slowly open the blade. Strange.

I believe the assist system Benchmade uses can not be removed or deactivated. A good friend of mine has a HK and a Torrent that are assisted openers, and the knives both have a detent. The problem is they don't use a removable torsion bar design like Kershaw does. The scale liners are cut in a way that allows them to be used to assist the blade opening. If I am not mistaken I believe both knives you mentioned are designed like this. Hopefully someone else a who owns one of these knives can confirm this.

I've de-assisted my Torrent. It has a detent but it is weak, weaker than the detent on the LFTi. It is tip down carry and the blade isn't that heavy so I can live with it, I'm just a bit more careful with it. It's a great knife.

Brad, you de-assist the Torrent by removing the roller between the scale "springs" - there is probably a video on it out there somewhere.

The problem is the Nitrous mechanism can be disabled, but then there's not much keeping the blade in the frame; and I consider that a dangerous option.

I think I'll leave the assist mechanism alone. My next option is to replace the single thumb stud with a dual stud from Knifekits. The thumbstud on the Mini TSEK I used to own was not reversable due to the tapered screw head. It looks as though it is the same with the Blitz (The model I plan on getting). Anyone ever try replacing the single thumbstud with a double? I'll contact Benchmade this week and ask them. I don't beleive that removing the thumbstud will void the warranty
so I should be ok there.

On the 890 Torrent your can't put dual studs due to it design, also the indent is very weak. I wouldn't want it in my pocket if it was de-assisted.

I have problem, torrent cant be closed sometimes, i feel no detent, is that normal? It may open, when i close it smtms. But right now it jus t opens only if blade goes down with its weight, not only by assist power. What to do?
