Im 5'6 and the biggest knives I have had have been 7 inches. It almost seemes to me a 9 inch knife would be to big to carry. After reading about the bigger knives I want one but it would probobly be a camp knife not one I would actually carry. I bet the 9inch one would look like a sword on my belt .

My little man's complex has only carried over to folders. :D I like the Sifu the Maxx, and Cold Steel XL Voyagers I just found that if your going to carry a knife all of the time, like a folder it might as well be bigger in size.

For fixed blades, I still like around a 7 - 71/2 inch blade. I have a very nice 9 inch Cold Steel Trailmaster and it is a professional dust collector, when going for the a blade to use around camp I go for my Recon Scout I just find the size more practical.

I am about 5'3" and 120 lbs. I once owned a 15" Ang Khola khukuri from Himalayam Imports. I had to get rid of it as it was too heavy.
I also prefer the "Squaw" size in tomahawks. I have never owned any really big blades and probably never will. I feel like a Hobbit.

I hesitate to call myself this after I was just reading here about trolls...but I am a true TROLL...I am 5'5" weigh in at 198.5 ( should be about 150 to 160 but my penchant for cookies and pizza has taken its toll ).
Anyway I do not carry anyhting bigger than about three inch blades as I just do not have the length hide it...for example if I try and carry a Spyderco Endura or Police it is just too long..I only have a 29" inseam. It feels uncofortable to carry in my pocket. Same goes for IWB carry.
SO I generally carry smaller knives...it aint the lenght of the blade it is how you use it.

I'm a real small guy too, hence my user name...;)

I can comfortably carry any length or weight folder in my back pocket, if I'm in an area where pickpockets are not a concern. However, I can't comfortably carry large fixed blades. I'm always amazed at the heavy choppers that some folks are able to tote around in the woods. I guess I could strap a long knife to my thigh or carry it on my back in some kind of tactical rig, but I am real low-key and choose not to do that.

I do own large knives, for example, an Ontario SP8 and a BK&T TacTool, but they are not for carry. Plus knives that I use in the kitchen, of course.

I'm pretty much your average height Asian guy and part of my regular carries are an AFCK and a Police G10...both fairly large folder..

They carry fine in my pocket but are definitely a no-no for IWB or SOB carry for me. Too long and obtrusive for that kind of carry.

For fixed blades I wouldn't care about the lenghth. I'd only carry it if I were camping anyway so it would just be strapped to my side in which case the blade could be 12" and it wouldn't be much of a bother.

I'm around 5'7", weigh around one metric ton(!) and generally don't carry big knives!:D (BM 720 or Mini TSEK for EDC folder and Fällkniven F 1 for fixed blade EDC)
Seriously, there should be enough lateral area to conceal almost anything, but I guess even the most cleverly concealed Busse Battle Mistress would hit the ground when I walk!

I think its really on personal preference and the job that your encountering. Being a 5'5 asian guy, I have no worries or troubles carrying a folder like the vaquero grande. For that one, I usually carry waist side or in the pocket if my pockets are deep enough.

When I go camping, I'll probably carry my recon tanto on one and my mini kukri on the other. Both blades aren't extremely large so I feel comfortable with them.
