Do the smaller waves open as good as the bigger knives?

I have a Mini Commander and have been looking at the Mini CQC-7. Its about an inch smaller and just wondering how well it opens out of the pocket. With my Mini Commander you don't have much to hold on to when pulling it from your pocket. I think I would like the smaller size for my personal taste for a EDC but don't want to give up the wave opening.

I've not handle one of the bigger Emersons and assuming they are easier to open using the wave?

Does anyone have pics showing some side by side?

Thanks

I actually prefer the wave on the smaller knives over the bigger ones.
I find the bigger knives open easily with a flick of the wrist so dont need it as much.
I know the wave is about pulling the knife from the pocket already deployed but I personaly dont use the wave on my bigger knives as much as the smaller ones.

This pic is of a Persian, mini commander, kerambit and the mini-7
The perspective is actually a bit distorted as the mini-7 looks bigger than it is and the persian smaller but it still gives you some idea.

Sorry, but long winded :)

I think this is the question - how much of the handle can you put your fingers/hand on as you wave the knife...now let's see if I ever answer it : )

I have the mini cqc-7 and had a cqc-14 for about 3 weeks.

What I noticed is that the mini-7 seems to have a much smaller wave lip. So that it doesn't grab onto your pants so much. The cqc-14 seemed to have a larger wave lip.

I'm not saying the mini-7 is bad, just that the wave lip is smaller - I actually like it that way.

For pulling out of the pocket, I find the safest way to pull it out is to grab onto the bit of handle that is sticking out of pocket with the side of your index finger (so on the 3 pocket clip screws) and thumb on other side of handle. That way, blade can open and fingers not in way at all.

If I grab onto the handle itself, further down, and wave the knife, I can stick myself on the blade as it opens.

The cqc-14 may have been the easiest, as the handle is huge but the blade point is nowhere near your hand. Because of that, the opening blade probably won't hit your fingers at all.

So the question is, can I wave the mini-cqc7 easily - I haven't really tried with this one, but just did it 2 times, with a quick jerk and it opened each time very quickly - wow, it is sort of scary how fast and securely it comes out.

Hope that helps.

I got a Mini CQC-7 for Christmas, and it's my firs Emerson. The wave works shockingly well! Even if I don't really push it against the rear of my pocked when grabbing it, there's a satisfying "clack" as the blade opens and locks. A few times when withdrawing it and not trying to open it (like to put it on my nightstand) it partially opened but didn't lock. That's the most scary for me.

I own all three sizes of the cqc7 and see no difference in the functionality of the wave feature. However, the fit of your pants is important. After loosing a bunch of weight, I was using the wave feature with a loose fitting pair of pants andd ended up with a half open knife tangled up in the pocket. The loose pocket edge simply moved with the knife and didn't fully open the blade.
