In ohio it is illegal to carry a gravity knife, but the law says nothing about balisongs. would anyone know if they classify them as gravity knifes?
Thnks

I don't know about Ohio, but in Texas, balisongs are classified as gravity knives. However if a cop ever asks me why I have my bali, I'll just point out that I can't open it using gravity, as it has the spring clip.

This is a question that seems to have a different answer between states, and even within different court cases in the same state.

It may also have to do with the particular balisong knife. A $20 balisong which won't even stay closed would probably be more likely to be considered a gravity knife when a BM42 with a spring clip would be less likely to be.

It would look to me that you can carry them openly (non-concealed).

In my part of Ohio, cops tell me as long as it's not concealed there aren't many specific limits as to what you can carry. I tend to be discreet either way...not gonna walk around town waving my Manix in the air.

if it's a questionable, why bother carrying?

are the consequences realy worth having your way, carry something you know is legal, balisongs are not the end/all be all of knives to begin with

don't get me wrong I love mine, and used to carry it, but with maturity comes a little wisdom
