Do they make a larger version of the Dragonfly?

Howdy all,

I'm new to Spyderco. The wife got me a Dragonfly 2 as a gift recently. I really like the knife. The VG-10 is very nice. I wondered if they made a knife like this one that was just a bit bigger. I don't want anything with a blade over 3 inches but with the same leaf blade shape. They have so many models, they all are running together after staring at them online. Thanks in advance.

Try one of the Sage's. You won't find a larger version of that handle shape though. It is curved to allow more hand on it to make up for the fact that it is little. The Delica might be another one to look at. Blade shape is different but close, and it has FRN and VG-10. The Sage's all have S30V. I like VG-10 better myself, but the Sage's are nicer overall.

I would say a Caly 3 would fit. They are black G-10, VG-10 steel 3" and a back lock.
+1
Will be little hard to find, but well worth efforts.
I think that we need a sprint of Caly3 with VG10 blade.

For me, the Sage series is more comfortable being held choked up in the choil. Similar to the Dragonflies normal grip.

+1 on the Caly, I had the Caly first, bought when it was still experimental, wasn't even called the Calypso yet, when they came out with the Dragonfly I thought it was cool that they made a smaller version of the Calypso..

Here's a pic so you can do some size comparison. The stainless knife in the middle is a Dragonfly. Directly to the left of it is a Delica, and directly to the right is a Chaparral. The knife on the far left is a Paramilitary 2, and the two on the far right are both Sages. Sorry, I don't own a Caly. I think a Chaparral or a Delica would be the next size up from the Dragonfly, but neither is just a scaled up copy.

Thank you all for the replies and that photo, remnar was VERY helpful. Sadly now I want all the knives that have been mentioned... haha I think the Chapparal or Sage are about the size I am looking for. The Sage's locking mechanism looks interesting too.

It sounds like the Delica 4 would match what you are looking for very closely. In a way it goes Dragonfly, Delica, and Endura but there are some differences between the three besides size. The Delica and Dragon fly are fairly similar with the Delica being bigger. It makes a great edc and for the money it is a great knife. Just the right size for an easy average edc.

The Sage series is interesting because each new model is intended to honor knife makers that have created innovative new locking mechanisms. The Sage 1 (carbon fiber Sage pictured) has a liner lock. The Sage 3 (the blue one pictured has a bolt lock). The Sage 2 comes with a "Reeve integral lock", and the Sage 4 comes with a back lock. You are limited when it comes to handle materials for these knives, but all of the materials used are great quality.

What did you wind up getting? This thread, along with many others, convinced me to get a Chaparral, which I'm glad I did. Now I'm looking at it's larger brother, the Sage-1.

I have not purchased one yet. I think I am going to go with the Sage3. I also am still lusting over a Para 2 and I can't get both right now. So I am debating over which one to get first.

The Para 2's have been in short supply EVERYWHERE for almost a year now. Spyderco has increased production, but demand seems to still be outstripping availability. Best shot at a Para 2 is to catch one here on the exchange from someone with good feedback.

Just to follow-up with this, I've since received the Sage-1 for a week or so and I love everything about it, except for the fact that it feels "chunky" in my pocket. I'm going to give it another day or so to see if I can get used to it. My Chaparral and Dragonfly-2 disappear while clipped in my pocket.

The C42 Caly jr is the closest thing to a slightly larger dfly.

Give it at least a week or 2. Just as I suspected, you were carrying a smaller knives before going to the Sage and naturally its going to feel bigger especially compared to a Chap and a Dragonfly. Stick with it and give it some time.
