Dave, As I have written in past and as you have experienced, if you have something that is worth stealing and you let people know about it, someone will come and try to take it. I only have a dozen old junker knives on the wall by my computer.

I try not to:
__ Go around town talking about my hobby or my knives. I only tell one person when I am gone. They get the papers and mail.
__ I ask friends that know I like to collect knives not to tell anyone else.
__ I keep 98% of my knives locked in gun safe. Open it only to get one to take a picture. The 2% are the 8 or 9 I keep out to choose a EDC.

If it is important to you to have knives out in open, or accessible to handle. Train you friends, relatives and kids not to talk about all your great knives. Never tell anyone how much they are worth. Don't put them in front of windows that someone looking in can see, especially trash men, mail men, meter readers, etc. Don't put them where they can be seen thru a window at night with lights on in the house. Consider something that is lockable if you have kids. I just don't think your smart if you have several hundred dollars in knives and wave it in front of people like a flag.

my dear friend 300
there is much to what you say,,,that is why I am quoting your post to show that I feel you are giving good advice!!!
yes it was one person that I trusted in my old mobile home and he came back to steel about 2000 worth of tools and a few knives... he did NOT get any out of the displays as they were put up in a locked room, what he got was a few that I had sitting around by my desk in the living room to mark with black light ink and the ones that I had that belonged to Habbie that I was to sell ...
but yes I like having my knives on display were I can see them... they are art work to me and not investments at all like some feel they are.
the room were I display them is always a locked room and I have marked mine for years now... and this one now has nanny cams in it :)
and I know that jest one gun is worth more then say 10 of my knives together ...
like I said I was jest a wandering ifn any one else displayed em ...
I know that one house I went to he had some in displays also and another had them in his drawers...
and some of the guys here have posted some picts of buckies on display like art work also!
I would suggest to any one here to not say what security things they have in effect if they post about the knives on display...

I have many display case's showing my knives. They are not out in the open part of the house were they would be seen by the causal drop in. As has already been said I don't advertise to anyone what is about. I have only shared that here.

Pictures always help.....Right:confused::confused:

I keep the Monet's and Picasso's locked in the Vault:D:D Take them out every once in a while to admire:rolleyes:

In this day and age theft is a problem, just like it was 2000 years ago, but they were quicker to chop off hands back then:thumbup::thumbup:

Fortunately Technology has come along way in the last 2000 years, so the thievers will be watched and recorded pretty much the whole time they think they're being clever:D:D Gotta love the nanny cams, and clock cams and the cams in my less expensive paintings on display. Things catch up to people sooner than later and if you decide to steal the consequences could cost a lot more than the quick Buck your after:eek::eek:

Oh Yeah, living at a firing range helps keep the bad people away:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

With that said I answered that I have a few on Display, they rotate, come and go...get lost....then found, Like all artwork, it is most impressive the first time's you see it, so that is the best part for me...Seeing the Rare one of a kind Buck knife for the first time and the second when you pick-up on things you did not notice cause you were on cloud 9 the first time:eek: Then the thrill isn't gone, but it's not the same, and eventually most get traded up. Sometimes gotta sell 2 nice ones to get 1 new One:grumpy::grumpy: Way of life:D

Who knows what it will look like next week or in a year, but this is what it looks like right now!! Sorry for the pics, I'm used to shooting pics of knives Outside.....

And what it looked like a couple years ago when I used to own Yellowhorse Bucks:yawn::yawn::yawn::yawn:

Good Poll Dave, Glad to know others out there have a similar working brain. I still want you to post a few pics of your really cool pearl 110 that you had at the blade show on the "pearl Buck thread", when you get a chance.......PLEASE:D:D

This is all I have on display for visitors to see. The 2 folders are complimentary of a couple of my forum buddies.

I pretty much adhere to the 300Bucks rule.

300Bucks forgot one important warning about displaying knives at home. It is best not to have any knives out, but if you have to display put out only a very few. NEVER HAVE ALL OF YOUR KNIVES OUT AT ONE TIME. The reason is obvious: your spouse.

Not true for all.... my wife is always anxious to see what's in the new box from the post office.... I'm lucky in that way.

I voted NO.

There are some really pretty knives posted here. Thank you!

We do not display our knives and we are not collectors. I am Not knocking collectors. I ENJOY looking at pretty displays online and in some homes. I admire what people collect for their beauty and function.

The knives that we USE for daily carry are in my husband's pocket and in my fanny pack. We have a survival-emergency bag that we keep year round in his truck and in his van.

I keep a knife and another tool in the bedroom by my side of the bed. I can reach them easily just as I can my eyeglasses. My husband has his 'house gun' by his side of the bed too.

We keep two other knives OUT but they are not on display like in a glass case. They are there to use and they are close to where we sit or by a writing area at the other end of this small house.

People can get robbed and/or have a NASTY home invasion in super NICE areas, rural, small town, super boonies, city or in the suburbs. IT does not matter what state or country you live in either! Bad things can happen to good people in so called good places and that IS a fact. Most of the time it can be a local person who KNOWS your business or a not so nice neighbor or even a criminal transient. MANY times they have been scoping out homes, NEW construction, older homes, NICE HOMES in upscale or middle class neighborhoods that look like people have some GOOD STUFF in them, farms, ranches and businesses and they absolutely know YOUR ROUTINE and your family if you have one. Heck, they even have high school 'gangs' from so called GOOD SCHOOLS who rob people even when the people are HOME and they rob their vehicles too. Fact!

I would say more to prove these POINTS from many, many years ago to this day and age but it does not belong HERE.
