Do you Axis lock folders rattle?

I have a BM 710D2 and 710D2SBK. I got both about a month ago. Just a few minutes ago, I was pocketing them and when I grabbed the plain, it kind of rattled when I shook it lightly. I checked the SBK and it did the same thing. This is the first time I've heard this and I just want to know if this is normal or something that should be looked in to further?

It only makes the rattling sound when they're closed. When they're open there's no rattle. The source seems to be from around the lock area and when I hold the Axis button with more pressure than average on each side, it doesn't rattle when closed. Could this be the Omega Springs just moving around?

Both knives have had no problems whatsoever.

Just picked up my BM 722 and it does indeed rattle a little bit when closed, but not when open. My BM 705 does not rattle at all. I'm not too concerned about it tho. I think it is a washer in the axis lock mechanism.

No rattle on 8 Axis knives, an intermittent rattle on one (which seems to depend upon where I place my fingers when shaking it and also seems to be coming from the clip/scale contact area).

Some report that the rattle is in the stop pin. None of mine rattle-732, 720, 525 & 555.

Some models have an adjustable stop pin. If so you might want to check that the screw is indeed tight.

the 710 has a sleeve over the stop pin that will rotate freely. It adjusts itself for use. When locked open there is pressure from the blade against the pin, that is why you don't hear the rattle when open. In the past I've adjusted the pivot to my taste and placed a small amount of loctite on the pivot and a very small amount at the ends of the stop pin. Works well, and when you need to turn the stop pin for adjustment, heat it with a hair dryer. It will loosen the loctite and works like a charm.

I don't think that there is a "sleeve" over the stop-pin.
That rattle is the stop-pin itself.

Take the knife apart, and peen the ends of the stop pin.

If you cannot do this from experience, either learn to live with the rattle, or have Benchmade do it.

You can also put a small drop of Loc-Tite where the pivot-pin and liners meet.
It worked on a noisey 556 I once had.

Good luck,
Allen.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Seems like this isn't any sort of a major issue so I'll just leave them be. The rattle doesn't bother me. It's just this was the first time I noticed it so I wanted to make sure everything was ok. I'll give the loc-tite a go or peen the stop pin when I get adventurous enough to take the knives apart. Thanks all.:)

I have griptilians 551 and 552 and they both rattle. It's definitely the stop pin and I think it rattles because it's designed to allow the stop pin to rotate, thus distributing impacts from opening more throughout the stop pin as opposed to constant impact on the same area.

I researched this issue extensively for my 940 and from what I understand, ignoramus (2 posts up) is 100% correct. Its normal and serves a purpose.

The Loc-Tite idea is a simple, quick, and fairly durable fix. I've done it on stop pins before with no problem.

My 556 rattles when closed. Not when open. Never noticed it until I saw this thread. I guess it doesn't bother me.
