So do you believe in Bigfoot? Why/Why Not?

Personally, No. I feel it's like asking me if there's a Flying Spaghetti Monster :D

Pesonally, no. (it's a favorite topic over at the James Randi boards....)

There are a few (very few) working scientists that hold out for our big furry buddy. They point out various tracks that have been found, and the proliferation of "sightings".
However, skeptics have pointed out that highly realistic tracks (down to "dermal ridges") can easily be faked, and that the witnesses have been less than reliable.
No one has ever explained why, with a population presumably large enough for breeding and survival, no one has ever found a body, some bones, a dwelling site, etc.
The famous "Patterson" film has been generally acknowledged to be a fake, though a clever one.

the animal or the one in the ford pick up truck body?
the one in the truck body, yes
the mammal, no someone would have shot one by now.

Uhh no, nor the loch ness monster, Santa Claus OR the tooth fairy...

I don't think that there is a Bigfoot. The TV series "In Search Of" from the 70's, hosted by Leonard Nimoy, did an episode on Bigfoot. They showed a map of the United States and a number was listed on each state. The number represented the number of sightings reported in each state. Every state had at least one sighting. Unless Bigfoot could travel at great speeds over great distances, it would appear to me that peoples superstitions have got the best of them. I also belive that there would have been a body found by now. There have also been reported sightings of Bigfoot in the eastern part of Oklahoma, a very wooded and desolate area. Since Oklahoma borders Arkansas to the east, the reported Bigfoot sightings are probably nothing more than a hairy hillbilly out on a walk in the woods.:)

A friend of the family out here, a respected environmentalist, though a self proclaimed nut, believes in Bigfoot. I used to really enjoy reading tales of monsters like Chessie, Nessie, Ogopogo and Bigfoot, but I don't believe that it exists. Having said that, I can't believe that it couldn't exist. Can't put anything past mother nature. I just would have to see it with my own eyes.

That's a good point. Just because I have no personal experience of any phenomena doesn't mean I can proclaim that it can't possibly exist. Some things, though, for many obvious reasons, are just incredibly unlikely. Still, though, it's curious that Bigfoot/Yeti "sightings" have persisted for so many decades, over so many different parts of the world. Plus, there's that movie with John Lithgow, 'Harry and the Hendersons.' How do you explain that big, hairy Bigfoot looking guy in the movie?;)

My dad is a well respected scholarly type who is an avid outdoorsman and has multiple degrees including a PhD in zoology and he believes in them. He also had an 'encounter' which is probably the main reason why.

If there are any bird watchers out there then you know that there are some pretty common birds that are almost impossible to spot. While not the same magnitude of bigfoot I think it could be possible that one has never been found if there is a large enough natural area. Plus I rarely see a dead bird and even then, it is because the cat got it or it was hit by a car. People bury their dead so why wouldn't bigfoot?

Not saying I definitely believe they exsist, just that I think it is possible.

No, there is not enough evidence to back up this claim. By now somebody would have shot one, or got some good pictures either from on the ground or from small aircraft.

While some people get a good feeling from thinking that there might be a Bigfoot (or God, or UFOs, etc.) I personally think that there is not. I'm certainly willing to change my mind though if I see one or if better evidence comes to light.

And if there is such thing, I hope I do see one.

Sure, why not ? Humans are constantly finding species we did not even know existed. I think that the possibility of such creatures like Bigfoot or Aliens etc , scares some folks , maybe it shakes their foundations up a bit or something to believe that things exist that we not only have no control over , but do not know much , if anything , about.

I've never seen anything out of the ordinary except for a possible ghost at my old work , but I welcome the chance to see something like Bigfoot or a strange fish , maybe a Thunderbird ! :D

I do not know that whether or not Bigfoot exists. Who knows for sure. It could be possible.

I'd have to see one to be a 'true believer', but I am not a true doubter either. I'll hold judgment in reserve for now, and I agree with those who have said that mother nature is capable of anything. I collect local folklore as a hobby, and it is surprising how many stories there are right here in NM about 'bigfoot' type creatures. There is supposedly one in the Hondo Valley, one down south of Roswell on the Pecos River, one up by Santa Fe.

What would your reaction be if we did find a bigfoot? If we did find an alien, or make contact with aliens (no Aliens Rebeltf ;)).

Sure, I think it is highly possible that Bigfoot exhists, and the Himalayan version "Yeti" also.
As we people find ever so often, there are "new things" we discover all the time....

After all there was a documentary movie made a few years ago called, "Harry and the Hendersons" that pretty well proves the exhistance of a creature like what we call "Bigfoot"....

OK, the first 2 sentences were serious. the one about Harry wasn't, I think...

I'm not saying I believe in them but I will say just cos we don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist !
As an avid outdoors man I would hike the forests nearly every day back in the UK and in all my years I only ever saw a Badger once and even then I was not fast enough to get a pic !
So to compare the vastness of Canada or the US with the UK and then to think that a Bigfoot is probably a far more intelligent creature than a Badger, it is quite possible that they are out there !!!!

Let me say that I have seen theories wildly varying on Bigfoot. One states that they are remnants of the Neanderthal, others that they are dimension hopping stewards of nature. I would go with the former over the latter any day ;).
